The Black Lives Matter at School Week of Action is intended to highlight, uplift, and affirm the rich history and contributions of the Black community; to educate all stakeholders and to cultivate in Black students a sense of pride, self-worth, and self-love. It is aligned with the District’s current Equity Policy (adopted in Feb. 2020), Black Lives Matter Resolution (passed and adopted on Sept. 17, 2020) and the Social Science Framework - Senate Bill 48.
Thank you to our African American Parent Advisory Committee leadership for their outstanding work in planning this week, which includes daily themes and sample activities for teachers to consider. Teachers can choose to incorporate them into their classes as either short 10-minute bell work or whole period instruction at their own discretion. We are excited to make this a week of sharing and inclusion where we can provide experiences for all stakeholders where they are able to learn about Blacks/African Americans past and current outside of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Rosa Parks, Harriet Tubman, etc.
You will be able to find resources, information and sample activities at bit.ly/AAPAC_CJUSD starting Tuesday, Feb. 9. We also will have a presentation at this Thursday’s Board Meeting
Please consider joining us virtually.
Please stay tuned for more information and thank you for supporting this important event!
