Cynthia Melendrez grew up in Riverside and was the first in her family to graduate from college. She attended Riverside Community College where she received her Associates degree in Math and Science. She then transferred to the University of California, Riverside where she received her Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics and teaching credential. While in college, Ms. Melendrez worked for the A.V.I.D. program as a tutor and then transitioned to work for the Riverside Community College Upward Bound program as a tutor and college mentor for the remainder of her college career. This is her third year with CJUSD and she is currently teaching Geometry and Geometry Support. Her goal is to reduce the stigma from mathematics to make it fun and enjoyable for her students.
