Matthew Welzel is an alumnus of Colton Joint Unified School District.  Before becoming the Social Science Department Chairperson at GTHS he worked as a History and AVID teacher at Bloomington High School for the past ten years.  Matthew earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Science from Cal State University, San Bernardino.  From there he earned his teaching credential from Chapman University.  Matthew has taught many different subjects including US History, World History, Psychology, and AVID 9-12.  As AVID Coordinator Matthew grew Bloomington’s AVID program into a National Demonstration High School Site.
