SSgt Gutierrez enlisted in the Marine Corps in April of 1999 at the age of 17. After earning the title US Marine, SSgt Gutierrez went to Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton, California. From there he received orders to Ft Knox, Kentucky for Marine M1A1 Abrams tank crewman school. SSgt Gutierrez was stationed in 29 Palms, CA until 2003 where he was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.

In 2007 SSgt Gutierrez reenlisted with the Marines and changed his occupational special CH-53EAirframes mechanic. Stationed at Marine Corps Air Station New River, North Carolina from 2007-2014.  In 2014 he received orders to Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, CA. During his time in California, SSgt Gutierrez went to Okinawa, Japan for a Unit Deployment Program for 6 months.

As of August 2018 SSgt Gutierrez is currently out of Recruiting Sub-Station Redlands. InRedlands, CA. He will be Grand Terrace High School’s Military liaison and Military Career counselor until October 2021.
