News from the Superintendent
After much careful thought and with many mixed feelings, I have accepted a job as superintendent of the Santa Ana Unified School district as of January 1.
This was an extremely difficult decision. As excited as I am by my new opportunity, it means that I must leave everyone here at CJUSD. That includes all of you. Our Community Cabinet began as a small group, but has grown to more than 600 members. Many of you have been with us since the very beginning. You make a difference in our students’ lives throughout the year by sharing your time with mock interviews, career days, our College and Career Fair, our literacy festival and so much more. You have supported students through internships and served as role models. Your service to our district and community is invaluable and I want to assure you that our Community Cabinet will remain intact. We will need your guidance and support even more during this time of transition.
The future of this district and community will always remain important to me. I grew up in this district, graduated from high school here, began my teaching career here and then advanced through administration to become superintendent. It is more than the place where I work. It is home. My friends and colleagues here shaped my learning and growth as a professional, my vision and my passion for what we do and why. Our students and community inspire me to want to reach further, to help them see their own potential and try my best to play a part in their success. They, and each of you, have made me a better educator, a better leader and a better person.
The Board is in the process of selecting a new superintendent. I know they will make a great choice and that CJUSD will continue to move forward and serve our students with dedication and caring. We have a strong, caring and vigilant Board of Education and Executive Cabinet, as well as everyone on our district team. Our trajectory is never the work of any one person and will not change when I leave.
Please know that I will always take an interest in CJUSD and the communities we serve. It is truly as special place full of inspiring, talented, wonderful people. You will always be in my heart.
