• Thank you for your patience while we researched and organized the best way to celebrate graduation services to honor our amazing Yellowjackets.  In keeping with the guidelines set forth by Governor Newsom and the San Bernardino County Public Health Department, we are pleased to host a hybrid style graduation ceremony for the Class of 2020.

Your graduation ceremony will be a hybrid style production. You will physically participate in the drive thru portion of it. The entire day will be professionally filmed, edited, and added to pre-recorded speeches to create a finished product that will be streamed on various sites on June 20. Information on streaming devices will be forthcoming.

Below are CJUSD district-wide details you will be expected to adhere to in order to participate in the Class of 2020 Commencement Ceremony:

    • Graduates will wear caps and gowns for the commencement ceremony.  Please remember caps and gowns may not be altered.

    • All graduates are expected to wear a mask. The CJUSD is providing each graduate with a mask with our school logo on the date of graduation.

    • Only one vehicle per graduate will be allowed entrance. A vehicle may not be larger than a full size SUV (no party busses, limousines RVs, etc).

    • Upon arriving at the staging area, the graduate will get out of the vehicle for a photograph before receiving their diploma cover on stage with the principal.

    • CHS graduates should sit on the passenger side of the vehicle for ease.

    • Someone else other than the graduate must be driving the vehicle. All guests must remain in the car.

    • All debt to the school/district must be paid prior to the drive thru graduation day in order to participate.

    • Please be considerate of other graduates by keeping music low and refraining from using car horns and noisemakers once you reach the Hubbs parking lot.

    • Graduates are reminded to behave respectfully, responsibly and with integrity.  Inappropriate actions will be edited from the final production. Please  remember CHS is working in conjunction with the Colton Police Department and all California laws will be enforced.

    • All graduates must meet the academic criteria for completion of credits.

    Let’s make it fun!

    • We encourage families to decorate their vehicles with a large sign with your child’s name on it.

    • Bring your energy and excitement to the event! This is a great time to celebrate your graduate.

    • Guests within the car will be close enough to take photographs from within the car.

    • Professional pictures will be available to purchase after the ceremony.

    Commencement ceremony route:

    • Vehicles will enter the ceremony route from Valley and travel north on Grand Avenue and turn east on C Street.  Vehicles will turn south on Rancho and enter the ceremony in the Hubbs parking lot.

    • Along the ceremony route, cars will be greeted with a placard and host/hostesses explaining the process.  Be prepared to show your school ID at the stations along the route.

    Commencement Schedule:

In coordination with the Colton Police Department, CHS is hosting the commencement ceremony over two days, June 3 and June 5.  This allows us to provide a safe, organized traffic flow within the city of Colton.  To the extent possible, we ask that you please adhere to the following schedule. This will allow us to expedite the process and minimize wait times for you and your families.

We are hoping to be able to plan an in-person celebration for our graduates, which would provide a time for our students to reconnect with each other.  This is entirely dependent on the relaxing of social distancing requirements.  We request all graduates participate in this survey by May 29, 2020.
